To be authentic and truthful, music should come from the heart. TCO welcomes its former music director SHAO En in a returning concert engagement featuring several iconic works in the contemporary music repertoire. To showcase maestro SHAO's unique musicianship, the program includes CHEN Qigang's Violin Concerto The Joy of Suffering which employs the motifs from a classical Guqin music Yangquan Sandie to explore the essence of great sorrow and joy being a humanistic love. This work also showcases a wide spectrum of the symphonic textures in modern Chinese orchestra.
