Silk Road Bimonthly 073

Silk Road Bimonthly 073 cover

On September 7 of this year, Taipei Chinese Orchestra (TCO) announced the establishment of the "Taipei Chinese Orchestra Enterprises Friendship Association" at the opening press conference of the 2020/21 Season. This association was brought forward by TAI Chang-Chi, the chairman of Taipei Hotel Group, and called on other entrepreneurs to join the ranks of TCO supporting. The performance tickets subscribed by the association will not only be provided to VIPs and employees for viewing, but also be offered to social welfare organizations through Taishin Bank Charity Foundation, inviting vulnerable groups to watch the performance. The "Triangle of Love" formed by the business community, TCO, social welfare organizations makes the beauty of Chinese music accessible to more people.

Next, the autumn performance will also show the fruits of TCO's past efforts. On November 15, the "TCO Star Series-Ars Nova I" will present new works such as Xuan Wan Erhu Concerto and The Myth of Payuan Sheng Concerto. These new songs are the result of TCO’s three-year "the Cross-Season Concerto Commission Program". Over three years, TCO has invited composers to compose for various musical instruments, ranging from Suona, Liuqin, Percussion, Zhongruan, Contrabass, Bangdi, etc., to create an exclusive concerto for almost every Chinese music instrument. Music fans can enjoy these tracks in various programs of the "TCO Star Series ".

In addition, the "Celebration 30—TCO Youth Orchestra Concert" on November 22 is a grand event celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of TCO Youth. Known as the "Little TCO", the predecessor of the youth group was the "TCO Affiliated Youth Chinese Orchestra" formed in 1984. Under the careful cultivation of CHEN Tscheng-Hsiung, the second general director of the TCO, the TCO Youth has cultivated countless outstanding musicians for the Chinese music industry in the past 30 years. In retrospect, we are more admired for the prophetic insights of Mr. CHEN.

Learning from the people of virtue of the older generations, from this month, TCO has officially launched the "Who Will be the Successors-the Young Musicians Multi-star Project." This project has received responses from three public professional orchestras including the Kaohsiung Chinese Orchestra, Taoyuan Chinese Orchestra, and Tainan City Traditional Orchestra, as well as the Chinese Music Department of Taiwan University of the Arts, Chinese Culture University, and Tainan University of the Arts. These orchestras and schools will work together to select 11 young musicians under the age of 35 each year, and arrange musicians to participate in the performances of various professional orchestras to cultivate the next generation of successors for the Chinese music industry.

Man proposes, God disposes. We believe that this united strength will surely create a succession of good news for the future Chinese music environment.
