Taipei Chinese Orchestra

Looking back this year, as it is about to come to an end, with a strong Christmas atmosphere, we, members of the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, have completed our American tour, including a performance at the icon Carnegie Hall in New York, marking the first of its kind in Taiwan to stage in such venue. In addition, we have started exchanges with Shanghai City, collaborating with the Shanghai Chinese Orchestra to exchange musicians to increase mutual understanding. The orchestra has been holding its responsibility and expectation, to go out to showcase Taipei's cultural power.

Looking forward to the next year, TCO will continue to bring its influence to the Chinese music scene. We have carried out“evolutionary version”of many established projects, such as expanding the scale of the Taipei Chinese Instrumental Competition, which has been held in the spring over past years. The competition next year is for Huqin. We have signed agreements with five musical groups from Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau as well as Mainland China; those are Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Macau Chinese Orchestra, Singapore Chinese Orchestra, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra and China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra. Winners of the event will be given the opportunities to perform with the five groups, to accumulate practical experience, and create a career in the field.

In addition, we will organize a Chinese music summer camp next year. With the gracious support of Taipei's Department of Cultural Affairs, the camp will open not only to local students, but also overseas students, and invite many foreign conductors and soloists to serve as teachers. TCO expects to forge a base like“Tanglwood”, a world famous music center, for Chinese music field to stimulate mutual growth. 

TCO will celebrate it's 40th anniversary next year, the Taipei-based orchestra's new season will invite TCO's heads of present and past, principle conductors, overseas masters, traditional instrumental music contest winners and top performers to come back together, sharing the same stage with the orchestra. We welcome all the fans to join us to celebrate the anniversary together at the concert.
