Taipei Chinese Orchestra

Opera is a comprehensive art form which includes music, its integral part, and also incorporates other art styles encompassing literature, drama, dance, as well as stage technology and many others. The origin of the art style can be traced back to Italy in the late 16th and early 17th century. The genre has always been an essential art form to bring the beautiful experience to audiences after hundreds of years of development and change.

Though originated in the West, the art also has attracted a large group of loyal fans in Taiwan. However, drama is so expensive to make and develop, which cannot be achieved by private groups only. As the public sector, the Taipei Chinese Orchestra (TCO) has the responsibility to drive the development of Taiwan's performing arts through opera productions, to enhance the overall environment of the art.

Since 2017, TCO has launched a project called "TCO Theatre", with an aim of presenting opera and musical productions by turns. TCO expects more innovative works to add traditional and Taiwanese elements to satisfy audiences, while developing the project.

“My Mom Needs an Education”, TCO's novel production is the authentic work that meets the purpose mentioned above. The performance was finished in May in Taipei, which has received enthusiastic feedback. The Taiwanese drama, an adaptation of the work of the writer Fumin YANG, conveys family appearances through showcasing Taiwanese mothers' courage, optimism, their efforts and love for the families.

The production features an inventive blend of different performing styles such as songs, drama, music and puppet shows. The work reflects the local artists' creative power, and also brings back the memory of audiences who are immersed in the experience, crying and laughing together with the performers.

The show will be staged at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts (Weiwuying) on June 29 and 30. TCO cordially invites audience of all ages to enjoy the spectacular event together.
