2016 is the year that TCO has made especially for young music writers.
Follows the successful completion of “TCO International Conducting Competition” in 2015, 2016 will follow it's predecessor by ushering in “TCO International Music Composition Contest”. This event will propel Chinese music writing on to the international arena. I personally believe that having new Chinese music written is the vital force that paves the way for long lasting operation. Besides the competitions, TCO also has organized a series of
related events, including “2016 International Music Composition Contest”, “Test Perform New Works”, and “About Music Composition” panel discussion etc, creating a platform for writers and Taiwan music inspirations to meet.
So far I think there lacks a systematic way for young musicians to corporate. As a public funded orchestra, TCO should be there to provide more opportunities for young writers, performers, and conductors etc, and further develop talents in a well thought out fashion.
Having traditional music as the fundamental element for composing, “2016 International Music Composition Contest” as an event is rallying international young writers to get to know Taiwanese folk music voluntarily, from which to unleash different creative energies. Through this event Taiwanese music and its bands will also be seemed and heard more widely.
Collaborating with various universities and colleges, “Test Perform New Work” offers music students a chance to see their work come to live with TCO's top notch musicians. With Taiwanese folk music as the key inspiration, students can participate in this event through their teachers' recommendation. During the “test perform” process, TCO's musicians and music professors will provide on the spot feedback and the students can hear how their piece sound before and after the modifications.
