Silk Road Bimonthly 048

As was in the last concert season, the Taipei Chinese Orchestra (TCO) will introduce 10 concert series in the 2016/17 Season, where we will commission new works for TCO by Taiwanese composers such as CHIEN Nan-Chang, LEE Che-Yi, YEN Ming-Hsiu, LIN Ching-Mei, MA Ting-Yi, CHENG Yi-Chen, and Owen WANG. We are very proud to say that TCO commissions and performs the highest number of works by Taiwanese composers in Taiwan. In the coming season, TCO will also boast the highest number of guest conductors since its inception, adding more musical sparkles to the concerts to come.
The coming season will continue to feature well-received series such as Traveler and Living National Treasure. The season will also debut a cross-over opera production in Minnan dialect—The Four Women of LEE Tien-Lu—an opera with an all-Taiwanese cast and production team. What’s more, some series will be organized in consonance with the 2016 World Design Capital and the 2017 Summer Universiade to be held in Taipei.
Meanwhile, TCO hopes to adopt more proactive measures in boosting its box office. For example, TCO will introduce special concert subscriptions for students, who can enjoy more discounts if they buy more or buy earlier—with a hope to change fans’ ticket-purchasing habit. For the Five-Star Student Subscription Package, TCO provides a 90% discount for NT$800 seats in 11 select concerts (NT$880 for the total package). With this ultra-low, preferential pricing available, music-loving students can enjoy TCO concerts in premium seats at a nice discount.
