Silk Road Bimonthly 068

Silk Road Bimonthly 068 cover

As 2019 comes to an end, the fruitful year of meeting many world-renowned musicians and innovative programs, I and the members of the Taipei Chinese Orchestra (TCO) hereby express our gratitude to fans for celebrating TCO's 40th anniversary together. With the new year is approaching, TCO will keep displaying various spectacular series in 2020, such as the Principal Conductor Selection Series, the Director Series and the Chinese Music Novel Force Series, anticipating to bring audiences fantastic experiences in Chinese music.

One of the highlights for next year is the Taipei International Conducting Competition, starting in March. Unlike contests organizing only by Chinese music groups, TCO will coorganize with its sister group the Taipei Symphony Orchestra (TSO) this time. As the event involves western and Chinese orchestras, TCO expects to discover and cultivate outstanding new talents while encouraging international cultural exchanges and promoting the development of music through the event.

It is worth mentioning that the top three winners of the competition will have the opportunity to share the stage with local and international orchestras, such as TCO, TSO, Dohnanyi Orchestra Budafok, the important symphonic orchestras in Hungary and many others. The aim of the arrangement is to let the young musicians successfully master the music groups through their authentic skills and sensibility, to develop all-round abilities.

Perceiving sacred and religious mind and romantic emotion in German musician Johann Sebastian Bach's works, listeners can also easily grasp the aesthetic approach of oriental artists to leave certain portion of their works blank. In other words, music is either good or bad, regardless of culture and language differences. Therefore, let's look forward to the upcoming exciting event and witness the birth of rising stars.
